School Tech 1- Interactive boards

Equipment at my school and how often I use it (1)

Although I do have opportunity to work with small groups of children the majority of time I spend working with one pupil where I assist his additional learning needs. The pupil has been diagnosed with Autism, ADHD (Medicated) and like many has had a problematic upbringing. Generally we must build up and try keep a consistant routine where possible. Currently he is on a ICT ban as he was not following the school rules, using the ICT incorrectly (Hacking into things) so currently I am not accessing ICT frequently to aid pupils learning.
However I will look at what technology we have discussing what I have used in the past commenting on the effectiveness of furthering children's learning.

There is a small variety of interactive boards available (Smart board, ActiveInspire, Promethean) and at my service setting we use 'ActiveInspire' Interactive boards. There are only a couple actively being used some for simple progressive reasons like the introduction of Apple TV and the other for poor reasons like the lack of confidence, urgency, understanding of them especially how to reconfiguring. I must admit I was a little unsure until recently on our university coarse I realised how beneficial they could potentially be. Calibrating a promethean Interactive White Board

Where They Are Used And What For

Apart from University recently there is only one place which I have experienced the ActivInspire boards and that was in the Design Technology Classroom.

Where They Are Used And What For
  • D&T- The pupils used this interactive way of learning to plan and design their projects.
  • Maths- Also pupils used this throughout maths where they would be allowed to interact writing answers and questions.

I Have Learned

I learned quickly that this was a fun way of facilitating a lesson, most pupils felt more confident when using the board in class.

I Can Apply This To Support Pupils

In another class there is a board so by working in partnership with the teacher i feel we could combine our skills for English and improve and facilitate a deeper learning with pupils through interaction.

I definitely feel that if i get the opportunity i could deliver an inspiring, interactive lesson which would include elements of problem solving and ownership for pupils.

Impact On Learning

There are some pupils in my class with communication challenges so this in particular helped stimulate them by the visual interaction from the boards.

Changes To Help Learner

I would give them a lesson on the basic function which would allow them more freedom and confidence to explore and learn more.

Applying Theory Into Practise

The reality is because i shadow an individual pupil around i would not get time to actively use this more but will definitely pass on information to other colleagues to challenge them to use in their lessons, highlighting the benefits.
